Jewellery Care Guide
Fine jewellery that is cared for properly lasts for generations. A few simple habits keep your Vash pieces as bright as the day you received them.
Last on, first off
Apply perfume, creams, lotions and hairspray before you put on your jewellery, and let them dry completely. When you get home, take your jewellery off before anything else.
When to take your jewellery off
- During sport, the gym and heavy work
- In pools, hot tubs and the sea: chlorine and salt water harm gold and solder joints
- When cleaning with detergents or bleach
- When sleeping, especially fine chains and drop earrings
Cleaning gold
Soak the piece for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a few drops of mild washing-up liquid, brush it gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse in lukewarm water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use toothpaste, baking soda or rough cloths: they scratch the surface of the gold.
Diamonds and precious stones
Diamonds attract grease, which dulls their sparkle. Use the method above and clean behind the stone with a soft brush. Once a year, bring your piece to us so we can check that the prongs and stones are secure.
Pearls
Pearls are soft and delicate. Wipe them with a soft, slightly damp cloth after every wear and never soak them or put them in an ultrasonic cleaner. Store pearls apart from other jewellery.
Storage
Keep each piece separately in its own box or pouch so it does not scratch against others. Store chains fastened and flat so they do not tangle. Keep jewellery away from humidity and direct sunlight.
Vash aftercare
Cleaning and polishing of Vash pieces is free during the first year. After that, we offer polishing, repairs, resizing and re-tipping of prongs at fair prices.
